A Heartfelt Kitchen Transformation for Scotty’s Little Soldiers

When Katie Keir, the SMILES Programme Assistant at Scotty’s Little Soldiers, contacted us at Granite & TREND Transformations, we were immediately moved. Scotty’s is a remarkable charity that provides vital support to children who have lost a parent in the Armed Forces. They offer a variety of programmes, including respite breaks for bereaved families across the UK—seven holiday lodges that give these children and their loved ones a chance to rest, recover, and make new memories.

Katie was seeking a quote to replace the damaged kitchen cupboard doors in one of those lodges, located in Combe Haven Park. At the time, we weren’t fully aware of the scale or impact of the work Scotty’s does. But after receiving photos of the lodge and learning more about their mission, we knew we wanted to help in more than just a professional capacity—we wanted to give back.

The decision to carry out the work completely free of charge made this project even more meaningful for us. We felt it was the least we could do to support a charity that does so much for families going through unimaginable grief. By handling the makeover at no cost, we hoped Scotty’s could redirect those funds toward other vital areas of support for the children.

How did they hear about us?

Katie was researching into companies who would be a good fit to provide them with the service of having their kitchen cupboard doors replaced. She came across the Granite & TREND Transformation site and decided to contact us to see if we could help update the Combe Haven Park lodge kitchen doors. 

The Plan

Our client wanted to update the look of their tired, old kitchen cabinets so that the families who use the lodges could do so without having to look at the worn cupboard doors. Our team of experts visited the site to assess the damage and compiled a detailed list of what needed to be done. We then worked closely with Katie, guiding her through our wide selection of replacement kitchen cabinet doors to find the perfect style and colour to brighten the space and create a welcoming atmosphere for the families staying there. With the colour scheme and design chosen, the clock started ticking on our tight deadline, so we got to work.

Despite the lodge’s busy schedule and limited availability, we coordinated a date that allowed us to complete the entire transformation in just one day, ensuring minimal disruption for the next guests. It was a tight turnaround, but our experienced team was proud to rise to the challenge. 

Getting to Work

Once everything was planned, our installation team got straight to work. The transformation began with fitting brand-new, crisp white kitchen cupboard doors, chosen to brighten the lodge’s kitchen space and make it feel more welcoming and uplifting for the families arriving for their stay. The original doors had become dull and discoloured over time, and we knew that refreshing them would make a real difference to the overall feel of the space.
While Katie initially contacted us for a quote, we had already decided to donate the makeover. Supporting Scotty’s Little Soldiers in this small way felt like a meaningful opportunity to give back to a cause that truly matters. By taking care of the project at no cost, we hoped to free up resources for the charity to continue providing the vital emotional and practical support these families need.
The work may have only taken a day, but the impact will last far longer. We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in making the lodge feel more like a home away from home for these resilient children and their loved ones.
