When there’s mention of a Country Kitchen, there’s no doubt that a sense of home, nurture, and family is at the heart of its sentiment. Comforting and practical to take care of friends, family, pets, and neighbours – timeless and yet robust, built to last as we move through the passage of life.
Recently we worked with Sarah Beeny (As seen on Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country, on Channel 4) to complete her kitchen and utility space in her new country house, installing our etherium® By E-Stone worktops in the stunning Statuario, from our Trascenda® Collection. A mix of classic and contemporary, Sarah designed her house interior to be highly practical for her large family and enjoy a sense of luxury, home-comfort, timelessness, and longevity.
Country kitchens typically feature a hearty range cooker, oversized, with room for multiple pots to be cooking at once. This makes catering for group gatherings a doddle. The AGA, Rayburn, or the Everhot that Sarah used is always on and often referred to as the heart of the kitchen. Used for drying, ironing, warming, slow cooking, and the usual baking and cooking, this time-saving multi-tasker brings continuous warmth and comfort into the home.
Another typical feature is either a large wooden country table or a central island is the feature of choice for many. A main island doubles as a breakfast bar. Whether you are busy preparing or creating culinary delights or simply soaking up the warmth from the range and relaxing in the kitchen, the island again creates multiple opportunities.
A double butler sink is standard in a country kitchen, often found by a window overlooking the garden. A more contemporary position is on the central island. We see a swing tap installed, perfect for reaching all corners of the sinks. And the hot water tap is an excellent addition to the country kitchen for instant hot drinks and to reduce time in cooking and steaming on the range.
Full height cupboards not only provide clean lines and a sense of heightened ceilings but, from a practical perspective, offer the perfect additional storage to hide a multitude of appliances and cookware. You can see the worktop has been installed on top of the base cupboards, so when the top cabinets open, it reveals a flash of the beautiful marble effect worktop, ideal to house a toaster or coffee machine. This is a new trend for the ‘breakfast nook.’
The utility room features the traditional boot room design with full height cupboards created to stow away the whole families’ possessions in a wonderfully organised fashion! We can recreate this look for you using our innovative bespoke storage solutions designed to fit your requirements exactly to add maximum storage without taking away the aesthetics of your space.
We were delighted to be part of Sarah’s dream country home design project. Our Quartz overlays are built to withstand anything that gets thrown at them. They are heat, stain, scratch, impact-resistant, and non-porous, so they never need resealing.
Our etherium® By E-Stone worksurfaces provide high visual impact with the assurance of durability and little to no maintenance. How great is that! While design, aesthetics, practicality, and sustainability feature highly in our products, cleanliness is also crucial. All our worktops include built-in Microban® anti-bacterial technology, actively reducing the growth of bacteria 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We love how the kitchen finished the house beautifully, and we hope Sarah and her family enjoy it for many years to come.
