What does “sustainability” mean to you?
You hear it everywhere these days, but it can often mean different things to different people. However, when we talk about sustainability, we are talking about doing something in a way that is long-lasting and enduring and has a minimal impact on the environment.
It is easy to see how sustainability works with food production, upcycling clothing and goods, or investing in renewable energy but how does it work when it comes to home renovation? How can you sustainably renovate your kitchen or bathroom?
After all, isn’t home renovation is always going to be messy? Generally, you’re taking out what is already there and putting in something new. Even the smallest of jobs generate a of lot waste. We all want to do our bit in helping the environment, and that means having to accept less than the best in order to choose the environmentally friendly option – right?
If you choose Granite & TREND Transformations for your kitchen or bathroom renovation, there is no need for you to make a choice between a luxurious, beautiful new look or transforming your home sustainably.
You don’t have to mean to be green!
For us, sustainably renovating your kitchen or bathroom comes down to two things: what we do, and how we do it.
We take our commitment to environmentally friendly renovations very seriously here at Granite & TREND Transformations. Thousands of kitchens and bathrooms are sent to landfill every year, with up to two tonnes going to waste for every kitchen that goes through a renovation. Most of the time, that waste is completely unnecessary.
As long as your current worktops and units are still solid and sound, you can completely transform how they look without ripping them out – simply reface them, instead of replacing them! Our Top that Fits on Top can be installed directly on top of your existing worktops, giving them an incredible new look without the need to remove the old ones. That doesn’t just mean less waste, that also means less mess, stress and disruption in your home.
And the best part is these overlays have the same luxury finish as any new worktop. The same principle applies to your cupboards too – just replace the doors and handles and you’ll soon have the new look you have always dreamed of. Add in new flooring, perhaps a few special touches with some splashbacks and upstands, and suddenly you have a total kitchen transformation that is both beautiful and sustainably sourced.
With what waste there is, we will happily dispose of it for you in the most environmentally-friendly way possible and recycle as much of it as we can.
Using the right materials
Solid pieces of granite & quartz may make for beautiful worktops but they can be a big issue when it comes to sustainability. There’s only one marble quarry left in the UK these days, so the chances are that you’re new granite or quartz worktop has travelled a long way and racked up quite the carbon footprint in the process.
Whatever materials you go for, you also need to consider the energy and waste that has gone into the manufacturing process. Here at Granite & TREND, all of our kitchen and bathroom surfaces are made from up to 72% post-consumer recycled materials, meaning there is the absolute minimum coming from quarries and mines. We even repurpose smaller fragments of natural granite and quartz from quarry sites that would otherwise end up as landfill. By incorporating this type of raw material into our manufacturing processes, we are able to create exquisite layered effects of colour and patterns, meaning our surfaces look just as magnificent as anything mined from nature.
We’re continually investing in making our manufacturing processes more efficient and our production centres now use far less energy and waste water than any of our competitors. We can even transform everyday items into beautiful, sustainable products, such as our glass mosaics and etherium®By E-stone, glass slab collections which are made primarily from post-consumer recycled glass.
Longer lasting, stronger, better
Our environmentally-friendly kitchen and bathroom products don’t just look and feel great, they stand the test of time too. Made using our own specialist polymer resin, and now featuring built-in Microban® technology, they are heat, stain, scratch and impact-resistant, making them even more long-lasting and durable than natural sourced materials.
So, not only are you investing in sustainably transforming your kitchen or bathroom, it will be a long-time before you might need to think about repairing or replacing those key areas of the home again. A process and sustainable approach towards home improvement benefits everyone – us, you, and the planet.
That’s why Granite & TREND Transformations is not just the smarter option for kitchen and bathroom renovation, it is the greener one too.
