Transitional kitchens – kitchen trends
Transitional kitchens blend traditional and contemporary design elements and are bright, relaxed, and inviting. The overall look is striking and timeless, with casual elegance. Classic and uncomplicated cabinetry with plenty of storage, matching appliances, and clean workspaces complete the transitional kitchen look.
Elements to consider:
A neutral and relaxing colour scheme throughout. Neutral doesn’t mean bland. Gone are acres of magnolia, now shades of soft greys, warm stone, cashmere, and mink abound. Colourways should work together tonally. Think of working your way down a paint sample card.

Keep décor to a minimum. Lose the finials and overly fussy design. Simple open shelving if you must, but design with cleaning in mind. The space shouldn’t feel busy or cluttered.
Layered lighting is crucial. From natural to artificial, ensuring you have variety is the key.
Statement pendant lighting over the central dining areas or kitchen island differentiates the dining space from the kitchen’s work zones. Remove window treatments, if possible, to leave windows unadorned. Curtains in the kitchen are definitely not something to bring into 2023.

Finally, consider your cabinetry hardware. Not necessarily matchy-matchy; they do, however, need to make stylistic sense. Contrast a traditional style tap with a modern cupboard handle. Mix chrome with copper or brass. However, do keep all drawer pulls uniform, the same with cupboard handles. The aim is to create calm and classic kitchens that stand the test of time.
